Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has praised head coach Eric Chelle for instilling unity, stability and a winning mentality within the national team ahead of Wednesday’s international friendly against Portugal.

The Leicester City midfielder said Chelle has brought a renewed sense of purpose to the squad, creating an atmosphere in which players are committed to representing the country and competing for one another on the pitch.

Ndidi noted that the coach’s impact goes beyond tactical organisation, adding that the team’s growing confidence, cohesion and positive performances in recent outings reflect the progress made under his leadership.

According to the midfielder, the improved team spirit and collective mindset have strengthened the Super Eagles as they continue preparations for future international assignments.

“Eric is a very great manager. He is an amazing guy,” Ndidi said. “The way he brings the team together is really good because everyone is happy having him around. The most important thing is to have a group ready to fight and work for the nation.”

The Besiktas midfielder also praised the football philosophy introduced by Chelle, noting that the team’s displays at major competitions and recent friendlies have shown clear signs of progress.

Despite the positive trajectory, Ndidi acknowledged that the Super Eagles remain a work in progress.

“We’re not perfect, but we’re getting there. We keep learning and improving every day. There’s so much confidence in the team with our philosophy,” he added.

Nigeria’s encounter with Portugal will offer another gauge of progress for a side aiming to build momentum ahead of future competitive assignments.
