Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro said losing just one competitive game in a tournament like African Nations Cup qualification games does not warrant being sacked by his employer, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The Portuguese tactician insisted that losing to Guinea Bissau at home has not changed his dream of winning the next African Nations Cup in Cote d’Ivoire and as such, sacking him will only cut short his dream of winning the title for Nigeria for the fourth time.
“Losing a game in the qualification games don’t warrant being sacked.” He told journalists during the presser on Friday.
“Why will I be sacked? We are on good position to play in the next African Nations Cup, so, should a coach who will lead the team to victory be sacked? No, you don’t do that.
“Of course today, we created many opportunities but Guineans are lucky. Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen, Onuachu, Ndidi could not score when scoring chances were created. The players and coach are not happy about the result.
“To say the truth, everyone who watched this match today knows that our team deserved a win because we created many opportunities. Ordinarily, we could have scored 4 or 5 goals but it happen in football
“We just lost one match. Any team can lose one match because if we play the way we played today, we can beat any team including Guinea.
With the win, Guinea Bissau have moved to the top of group A table with 7 points in three games while Super Eagles are placed second with 6 points in three matches. The return leg (AFCON qualifier Match-day 4) holds on Monday at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau.
