NFF Scribe Parries Worry Over Stephen Keshi Stadium

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) secretary-general, Mohammed Sanusi has parried worries in certain circles that Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba is not good enough to accommodate the Super Eagles’ upcoming matches.

Although Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr is also known to have expressed worries over the size of the pitch, which he believes is too small for grade-A matches, Sanusi insists there is nothing to worry about.

Rohr stated his fears when the arena was slated to host two upcoming matches for the team, against Seychelles in the final qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations this Friday, and an international friendly with the AFCON 2019 hosts, Egypt next Tuesday.

While soccer fans and pundits are also of a view that the entire arena in the Delta State capital is also smaller than international stadium stadia, which could make it inconducive for the upcoming matches, Sanusi is not having any of such fears and insists there is nothing to worry about.

He went on to affirm emphatically that the Asaba pitch will not give the Eagles any problem when they battle the visiting teams, and stressed that no one in the team, not even the coach, is complaining about it.

“I don’t know where stories emanated from in some quarters that Rohr and the players are complaining about the Asaba pitch.

“Before Asaba was selected for the two games, the NFF as a responsible body had enough conversations with the stakeholders in the game.

“This is not the first time the players are playing an international match on the Asaba pitch. Right now, we have not had any complain from the coach,” Sanusi concluded with an air of finality.
