Nigeria Boxers fail to qualify for Olympics

Date:

All six Nigerian boxers who participated in the 2nd World Boxing Olympic Qualification in Thailand returned home without a ticket to the 2024 Olympic Games as they lost to their opponents.

The hope of seeing Nigeria participating in the game of boxing in France was finally dashed when lone survivor, Adeshina Zainab was defeated by Kaivo-Oja Pihla of Finland in the women’s 50kg on Sunday in Bangkok.

The Nigeria Boxing Federation had hoped the women pugilists would punch their way to France because they had more chance of qualifying.

Six boxers from Nigeria registered to fight for places at the forthcoming Paris 2024 Games’ second Window qualification tournament slated for Bangkok, Thailand.

At the first Window of the Olympic Games Boxing Qualifiers in Italy, no Africans, out of the 67 that competed, secured an Olympic slot.

As Nigeria failed to pick ticket to participate in boxing in France, Athletics, Badminton, Female Basketball, Female Football, Table Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling are some of the sports that Team Nigeria will be represented at the Paris Games.
