Italy will be the camp base of team Nigeria, as they bid to compete at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in the city of Milan.
Nigeria participated in the Italian Ski cup in November last year and has targeted garnering enough points that will see them sail through and excel when the 2026 world championship takes the center stage.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Head team of Nigeria Ski Sports Association, Mr Olubunmi Gabriel said the team needs a lot of points to qualify for the championship.
He further stated that Italy will remain their camp site, for acclimatization and largely due to the fact that Africa does not have snow to help aide proper preparation.
He equally revealed that the delegation will frequently visit the host country in their bid to continue to fine tune and get the shape that will help them to qualify as many athletes as possible for Nigeria.
“our target is to get a lot of points to qualify our athletes ahead of Winter Olympic in 2026 that will take place in Milan”
“We need a lot of points ahead of the winter Olympics, and we have chosen Italy as our camp and training site because of the fact that we lack snow in Africa, and in Nigeria to be precise”
“So we will frequently visit Italy so we can qualify as many athletes as possible, ahead of the 2026 winter Olympics in Milan Italy”.
