Sunshine Stars are delighted to know that Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure has been given the all-clear by the Interim Management Committee (IMC), to host NPFL matches in the new season.
The approval follows the upgrade and extensive renovation works carried out on different sections of the facility in time for the start of the 2022/23 NPFL season.
The Commissioner for Sports in Ondo State, Honourable Dele Ologunloluwa whose ministry superintendents over Sunshine Stars was quick to register his gratitude to the state government and other stakeholders holders whose concerted efforts made the approval possible.
Ologunloluwa stated, “now the fears of some of our people have been allayed with this approval, thanks to the responsiveness of the Aketi Government. Despite our lean purse we were able to carry out crucial works at the stadium as demanded by the league body. It’s a demonstration that our government remain committed to sports development.
“Remember Governor Akerdolu has approved the remodelling of the stadium with the bidding process almost done with before now. Now, pending the remodelling of the facility, we are glad Sunshine Stars home matches will be played in Akure to the delight of our fans and stakeholders who all worked assiduously to ensure the stadium scaled through the requirements of the IMC.”
The IMC have since released the fixtures of the 2022/23 season which sees an abridged format with Sunshine Stars drawn in group B where they begin their campaign away at newly promoted side, Doma United on the 8th of January before hosting champions, Rivers United in Akure on match day two.
