Holders Rivers United started the defence of their Nigeria Premier Football League title with a scrappy 2-1 win against Lobi Stars in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

Morice Chukwu put Stanley Eguma’s side ahead on 16 minutes.

The visitors equalised through Umar Ubah 10 minutes after the break.

Kenechukwu Agu netted the winning goal from the spot in stoppage time.

In other games, Abia Warriors stunned Rangers 2-0 in the Oriental Derby at the Akwa City Stadium.

Bello Lukman and Monday Yakubu were on target for the visitors in the game.

Bello Lukman opened scoring for Abia Warriors four minutes before the break diverting home Kalu Nweke’s cross. Monday Yakubu scored the second goal in stoppage time.

Niger Tornadoes also recorded another away win edging out Wikki Tourists 2-0 courtesy of two second-half goals from Saudi Idris and David Okoromi.
