Nyima Nwagua, Ishaq Kayode Rafiu and Ebube Duru were all on target for Rivers United in a convincing home win over Kwara United. Talismanic forward Nyima Nwagua broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when he benefited from an Ishaq Kayode’s assist to fire in a screamer from outside the box in a keenly contested first half. After the interval, Ishaq Kayode maintained his cool to slot in Rivers United’s second goal from the penalty spot in the 51st minute after Nyima Nwagua was fouled in the box.
A rampant Rivers United side increased the advantage 4 minutes later when Ebube Duru smashed home a screamer from 20 yards to open his goal account of the season and the 3rd goal of the game. Joseph Onoja thought he had registered a 4th for the “Pride of Rivers” but it was ruled out as the referee spotted an infringement in the build up to the goal.
Kwara United wasted a few chances to reduce the tally but Coach Stanley Eguma’s men had been ruthless during an entertaining game and with the margin victory enough to maintain their 2nd place on the NPFL log.
