FC Porto of Portugal midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali is set to make a return to action with his club this weekend against Pacos de Ferriera, after missing the team’s last two matches due to a visa hitch that stalled him in Nigeria.
The Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning captain was held back in Nigeria, due to complications in his travel documents, which caused him to miss the previous weekend’s 3-0 victory against visiting CD Marfa and this past Saturday’s fixture away to Academica de Coimbra.
Nwakali, who is on loan from Arsenal to Porto, but is facing an uncertain future over his next contract, had been stuck in Nigeria after starring for the Olympic Eagles away and home against Libya in the African U-23 Cup of Nations qualifiers last month.
In the wake of Nigeria’s 2-0 loss away and 4-0 win at home, thereby moving ahead 4-2 on aggregate, Nwakali was unable to clear his return visa to Portugal, but is staying upbeat he will now get it down this week.
A similar struggle with visa issues had also affected Nwakali before he sealed the deal with Porto, who have since dumped him to their second team in the lower division, after his initial efforts at moving to NAC Breda of Holland hit the dust.
