The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF) on Sunday dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the December 25, 2025, airstrikes in Sokoto State were a result of alleged incompetence by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing the claims as misleading and politically motivated.

In a statement issued by its Northwest Coordinator, Saminu Tukur, the NYF cautioned against inflammatory rhetoric, warning that unfounded accusations could demoralise security personnel and embolden forces seeking to destabilise the country.

Tukur said the ADC’s position undermined the resilience and sacrifices of Nigeria’s security forces and failed to acknowledge the lawful and concerted efforts of the Federal Government to protect citizens from terrorism.

“The ADC’s claim that these military actions result from the alleged incompetence of President Tinubu’s administration is not only misleading but an affront to the determination of our national security apparatus,” Tukur said.

He added, “It is unfortunate that the ADC has chosen to politicise foreign military intervention on Nigerian soil. In seeking to score political points, they have overlooked the government’s lawful efforts to safeguard citizens against the threat of terrorism. Instead of fostering unity, they promote a narrative that diminishes the sacrifices of our armed forces and the resilience of Nigerians affected by insecurity.”

The NYF called for transparency regarding the airstrikes, urging authorities to disclose the number of terrorists neutralised during the operation, stressing that accountability is essential to maintaining public trust and demonstrating the effectiveness of counterterrorism measures.

Tukur further emphasised that Nigeria’s security challenges predate the Tinubu administration, noting that terrorism and insecurity are long-standing issues inherited from previous governments, including those of former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.

“The current administration inherited a complex security landscape, and it is disingenuous for the ADC to ignore this context,” he said. “Addressing these challenges requires a united front, not blame games that polarise society. Political parties and civil society must engage in constructive dialogue that prioritises citizens’ welfare.”

Reaffirming its support for President Tinubu’s administration, the NYF urged the ADC and other stakeholders to embrace cooperation and transparency, stressing that collaboration is key to strengthening Nigeria’s military capabilities and building a safer, more prosperous nation.

“We call on all political entities to place the security and well-being of Nigerians above political expediency,” Tukur said. “Together, we can create a safer and more prosperous Nigeria for future generations.”
