Nigeria’s Favour Ofili and Irish-Nigerian, Rhasidat Adeleke narrowly missed the cut for the Bowerman Women’s Post-NCAA Indoor Championships Watch List released on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Both athletes were beaten to the NCAA Indoor Championships gold by athletes who ran incredible times to win the 200m and 400m title respectively.
While Ofili, who came to the Championships as the fastest following her 22.11 new African record and world leading run had no answer to the supersonic speed of University of Texas’ Julien Alfred who ran 22.01, the second fastest time in history to win the gold, Adeleke, despite running 50.45 lost to Britton Wilson who ran 49.48 to become only the second woman in 2023 to break 50 seconds in the event.
The two are receiving votes for the top list an are just outside the top 10, placing 11and 12th respectively with the next release due April 4, 2023.
Ofili made her seventh appearance on the watch list when she was listed among the athletes to watch for the NCAA indoor championships that held at the Convention Centre in Albuquerque in New Mexico.
The Nigerian and the Irish-Nigerian however ended the indoor season as the second and fourth fastest in the world over the 200m (22.11) and 400m (50.33) respectively.
The Bowerman – collegiate track & field’s highest honuor – will be awarded in December at the USTFCCCA Convention in Denver, Colorado.
Only marks from the 2023 indoor or outdoor collegiate track & field seasons are to be considered for the award.
