Rangers International of Enugu coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has promised that his side will show better form in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, than they did in the qualifiying phase of the second-tier continental competition.
Ogunbote stated as much Monday morning on Mega Sports programme on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos, during which he admitted his side were not at their best on Sunday, during the second leg of their play-off against Bantu FC of Lesotho.
The former Sunshine Stars of Akure, Shooting Stars of Ibadan and Emnyimba of Aba gaffer noted that his players did not settle down into the match qucikly enough, wehich made Bantu scare them by scoring first at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, but added that The Flying Antelopes’ ability to storm back and win 2-1 shows their quality.
He thanked their teeming fans for sticking by the team and Enugu State government for backing them fully, hence his charge that the Coal City side must do better in the group stage.
Ogunbote stated: “We are happy with the victory, we are happy that we are now in the group stage, and that means we have to work harder.
“We will work on all ears of oyur weakness, which we saw in this match and in our previous matches, and we will work hard to get better.
“We are grateful to the state gopvernment for helping us with what we desire and to the fans for always supporting us.
“We are now in the crucial dstage of the competiiton and we cannot in any way afford to disappoint Nigerians. We will try to give our best.”
