Ogunbote Receives Award Plaudits From Rangers

Rangers International of Enugu coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has received a horde of congratulatory messages from several of his players and the club’s management, following his emergence as Nigeria’s best of 2018.

Ogunbote received the top gong at the second NFF Awards on Monday night in Lagos, ahead of Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr and Lobi Stars of Makurdi handler, Solomon Ogbeide.

In reaction, the Coal City club’s management led the spray of accolades on social media, with a hint that Ogunbote has carried aloft the team’s never say die spirit, which saw them win the Federation Cup last year.

The Flying Antelopes top brass stated: “Our technical adviser, Coach Olugbenga Ogunbote is the AITEO/NFF coach of the year award winner for the year 2018 beating Gernot Rohr and Solomon Ogbeide to the award which took place in Lagos, Monday night. #NeverSayDie.”

The Rangers’ management was joined by some of the players in hailing Ogunbote, with one of the midfielders, Adun Osamudiamen saying he was very happy to see the coach recognised for his achievements.

Osamudiamen said: “This award came at the right time because it will make the coach to work harder and also put the players on alert toward our continental ticket chase.

“Behind every success, there is somebody behind it and we believe in ourselves, what we can do with hard work.”

He was joined by the team’s ace goalkeeper, Femi Thomas, who said the award was a good reward to Ogunbote for his record breaking efforts for the team and disclosed that all the players were happy to hear the news.

The former youth international and ex-home based Eagles shot-stopper noted further that the award is a reflection of Ogunbote’s hard work and team building expertise that has seen Rangers through many difficulties.

Thomas added: “The coach of the year award means that our technical crew is getting it right and I know he will dedicate the award to his colleagues in the crew.

“Breaking a record is not easy and is not by you playing or coaching the national team.

“Ogunbote broke the record of Rangers not winning Federation Cup for years. He followed it up with a good outing at the continental league.

“He always worked as if he never worked before and prayed as never before and that is Ogunbote for you

“Beside, I do not know that Nigerians are watching and for recognising his efforts and success all this while, Nigerians have done well.

“I give glory to God and believe that we will keep working hard as a team to support him to achieve more.’’

Joining the players in the avalanche of plaudits, Rangers’ media officer, Norbert Okolie said Ogunbote truly deserves the award.

Okolie said: “Going by his achievements in the league and the continent for the past one year and breaking a jinx in Rangers within the year.’’
