Onyekuru: I’m Not Available For October 13 Friendly

AS Monaco of France winger, Henry Onyekuru has explained that he was left out of the Super Eagles’ list of invitees for next month’s friendly against Brazil, as he is not available to make the trip for the fixture in Singapore, as he is still battling to settle down at the Ligue 1 club he joined in the summer.

In what is now the second straight Eagles’ squad list Onyekuru will not be available for, the crafty winger-cum-attacker pointed out that he is yet to finalise his papers in France, following his arrival from Galatasaray of Turkey, where he spent last season on loan from Everton of England, while also adding that he is not yet 100% fit, after a bout with injury.

The former KAS Eupen and RSC Anderlecht of Belgium star admitted he will not be in the Eagles’ camp on October 9, the same way he was forced to skip the last friendly tie away to Ukraine, when his inability to get a residence permit in France meant he could not travel out of the country, in order not be blocked from making a return.

He is yet to make an appearance for Monaco since the start of the Ligue 1 season, and Onyekuru admits he will have to wait again till November to play for Nigeria again, after he was omitted from Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr’s 23-man list of invitees to face The Samba Boys on October 13.

Rather than take offence at the absence of his name from Rohr’s roster, Onyekuru stressed that it is in order, considering that he is still finding it difficult to t settle down in Monte Carlo, where he says he has found out that life is quite different from what he saw in Belgium and Turkey, as well as during his few days at Everton’s base, while recovering from injury in December 2017.

Onyekuru told “Honestly, it hasn’t been easy for me here, you know I only recently returned from a small knock and the paper issues have also not been settled. The way things are done here in Monaco is quite different and in fact I just got my account sorted out this week despite arriving almost two months ago.”
