Super Falcons winger, Francesca Ordega has taken consolation in the player of the match award she won the Africa Women Cup of Nations final, despite missing out oin the competition’s all-stars’ selection.
The Washington Spirit FC of USA star appeared in the running to be part of the all-stars’ roster earlier in the competition, only to end up in the substitutes’ rank after Saturday’s final, but she is not overly saddened by the development.
Rather than dwell on the disappointment of missing the all-star’s first 11 cut, Ordega expressed delight that the Falcons also recovered to win the AWCON 2018 title in Ghana, despite an opening day loss to South Africa.
Ordega, though, also admitted that the 2018 championship was one of her toughest but expressed delight that she and the team were able to prove doubters wrong.
After winning her second woman of the match award in the final against Banyana Banyana, Ordega said: “I feel great and excited.
“The last one I got was in 2014 and last two years I didn’t win any award. So, I took it upon myself and I’ve really improved my game.
“We lost the first game against South Africa and everyone was already writing us off but I’m so glad we came back to prove people wrong that we can still be the Nigeria everyone knows.”
