Osimhen Excited With Champions League Opportunity

Lille Metropole of France summer signing, Victor Osimhen has admitted he is highly excited with the prospects he now has of playing in the UEFA Champions League with the Ligue 1 club.

After sealing a five-year-deal that will run till 2024, Osimhen is happy for the latest lift in his career, especially as he will now play in one of Europe’s big domestic leagues, but stressed that getting continental action in the UCL is the biggest gain he is looking forward to achieving with Lille.

The Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer and highest ever goal getter in the cadet competition’s history added that he is eager to kick his first ball in the colours of Lille, who once paid the wages of Peter Osaze Odemwingie and Vincent Enyeama.

He will now play under highly respected gaffer, Christophe Galtier with a class of other exciting youngsters, like United States’ Timothy Weah and Brazilian forward Luis Araujo, as well as former Newcastle United and Chelsea striker, Loic Remy.

The lanky youngster, who failed to get into the main frame in five years at his first club in Europe, VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, but exploded in just a season on loan at Sporting Charleroi of Belgium, expressed a deep level of delight in completing a full transfer to Lillew.

He added that he is already looking forward to his first competitive match with Lille, and then go on to play regularly for the team, especially in the Champions League, which showcases the world’s biggest players.

Osimhen told “The Champions League is an exciting competition and I feel good I will participating in it this season with my new club.

“I am so delighted this dream has finally come to reality. I can not wait to kick my first ball for Lille. I am ready to work hard to make the first team and also win the love of the fans,”

Mikel Thanks Trabzonspor President For Accepting Him
Trabzonspor of Turkey midfielder, John Mikel Obi has thanked the Turkish Super Lig club’s president, Ahmet Agaoglu for approving the deal that took him to join compatriots, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi and Anthony Nwakaeme as a free agent early last month.

Mikel said he was excited to be officially unveiled by the Trabzon-based outfit on Saturday, for which he acknowledged the decisive role played by Agaoglu for the ceremony to hold.

Speaking after the event at Mehmet Ali Yılmaz Football Coordination Center, Mikel said he was glad to pen a two-year contract worth three million euros with an option for another one year in the club’s favour.

The former Lyon Oslo of Norway, Chelsea of England,, Tianjin Teda of China and Middlesbrough of England star, who has already started training with his teammates, added that he will be in good shape for Thursday’s UEFA Europa League third qualifying round match against Sparta Prague of Czech Republic.

Mikel said: ”I would like to thank our President for his nice words. When I came to Trabzonspor, I saw how big a club it was with my own eyes.

”I know that Mr. President has made the club stable since he took office and brought Trabzonspor to the places it deserved again.

”I will do everything I can for this team structure consisting of young and talented players, both in and out of the field, whether it be experience or determination and challenge.”

Igali Rates Nigerian Wrestlers High For Africa Games
Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) president, Honorable Daniel Igaliu has rated the country’s grapplers high ahead of this year’s Africa Games in Morocco, with a verdict that both male and female representatives will do the nation proud later this month.

Although the former Olympic Games gold medalist in the colours of Canada agreed that the Nigerian female wrestlers, led by Odunayo Adekuoroye and Blessing Oburududu stand better chances of picking medals at Maroc 2019, he insists the men should not be ruled out.

The lawmaker from Bayelsa State added that he is sticking out his neck for all six male wrestlers that will be part of Nigeria’s contingent to the 2019 Games in Morocco to also hold their own very well and come in flying colours, like the ladies are expected to do.

Igali enthused: “Odunayo is doing good. She is currently top-three in the world, while Blessing is in the top-eight.

“I also believe that the six men that will be representing Nigeria will also do well in Morocco. They will all make us proud over there.”
