Osimhen Has Improved In Certain Areas – Galtier

Lille Metropole of France striker, Victor Osimhen has been rated among the club’s most improved players of the moment, as the Ligue 1 outfit’s gaffer, Christian Galtier says the youngster is getting better with each passing day in training and appearance in matches.

Although he could not net at the weekend, Galtier says he is still excited to see Osimhen keep showing total commitment in all aspects of the game, which the tactician believes is helping the lad develop faster than many others.

At the last count, the lanky lad, who arrived from Sporting Charleroi of Belgium, where he signed at the end of the season after an initial spell on loan from VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, has five goals to his name and added an assist to help Lille get a 1-1 draw away to Statde Rennes.

Last weekend’s result allowed Lille get their first away point of the season, and Galtier was left raining more accolades on Osimhen, who is the club’s top scorer with five goals in six games, to justify the gaffer’s decision to buy him from Charleroi after netting 21 goals for the Belgian club.

His performance against Rennes earned Osimhen his third team of the week nomination from just six games, which Galtier says is further proof of how well the Super Eagles’ rookie has adjusted so quickly to life in Lille, so soon after his summer arrival from Belgium.

It was another haul of huge statistics for Osimhen, who contributed to the opening goal scored by Jonathan Ikoné on 46 minutes, as he was awarded a rating of 7.9 and partnered in attack for team of week alongside SC Amiens forward, Serhou Guirassy, while Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar was pushed to the wings to make way for the Nigerian rave of the moment..

During the match in review, Osimhen hit two shots, made two key passes, won two fouls, achieved four clearances, gained one tackle, executed an interception and came top in eleven aerial duels in 90 minutes of action, more than any other player on the weekend, much to Galtier’s delight.

The Lille boss added that he is happy to see how the 20-year-old Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer and highest goal getter in the Cadet Mundial’s overall history has added a lot more to his game, particularly his hold up play with his back to goal, which helps bring others into play.

Galtier said: “All strikers score goals to help their team but Osimhen does more. He has improved certain areas in his game particularly the ability to bring others into play when he is not in a strong position. There’s more to his game than goals”, Galtier said after the draw against Rennes.
