Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has debunked a report claiming that Arsenal have surged ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen.
It is no news that the Gunners are interested in the Napoli star alongside fellow London-based club Chelsea and Ligue1 table toppers PSG.
Earlier this week, a report claimed that Arsenal and PSG have moved ahead of Chelsea in the queue of suitors for the reigning CAF Men’s Player of the Year.
It was also added that the Blues are worried that they will miss out on the 25-year-old who has been their long-term target and have done a lot of work to convince him to join the club.
Speaking in his Daily Briefing for Caughtoffside, Romano stated that it is untrue that Arsenal are ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign the Super Eagle forward.
“Guys, there’s nothing new on Victor Osimhen so far despite reports that Arsenal are ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign him,” Romano said.

“There is no ‘moving ahead’ because it’s not a proper race. There’s no negotiation with Napoli as there’s a release clause, so it’s about paying that money and reaching an agreement with Osimhen. At the moment no club is close to that.
“Interest from various clubs has been there for months, but at the moment we’re not any further along in the story.”
It appears Napoli have resigned to fate about losing the Nigeria international in the summer and all that is left is for a club to pay his release clause to seal his exit from the club.
