With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations approaching, focus is already shifting to the stars expected to shape the tournament, as seven players emerge as early contenders for the Most Valuable Player award.

Topping the list is Egypt captain Mohamed Salah, whose consistency, experience and match-winning quality continue to set him apart as one of Africa’s most decisive forwards. As he heads into what could be his final AFCON, the Liverpool star remains determined to secure the continental title that has eluded him.

Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen is also strongly fancied, bringing pace, power and a ruthless goal-scoring instinct well suited to the physical demands of the competition.

Senegal’s Sadio Mané, a former MVP winner, remains a key figure with his versatility and proven ability to deliver on the big stage, while Cameroon’s Bryan Mbeumo adds pace, unpredictability and attacking thrust.

Nigeria’s influence is further reinforced by reigning African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman, alongside Côte d’Ivoire’s midfield enforcer Franck Kessié and Algeria captain Riyad Mahrez.

With pedigree, leadership and the capacity to decide matches, the seven players are expected to play defining roles as the race for continental supremacy unfolds.
