Napoli forward Victor Osimhen will be seeking to score for the sixth straight game when his club host Cremonese in a Serie A game Sunday evening at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples.
The Nigerian has been on fire since the start of the 2022/23 season and has scored 16 times in 17 games to sit on top of the top scorers list for the ongoing season.
The 24 year old will be looking forward to net again and extend his lead at the top of the Capocannoniere. He will however be doing it against a team he has never featured against in either the Serie A or any other competition.
Cremonese got promoted to the Serie A at the end of last season and Osimhen missed Napoli’s first league game with the team last October due to a Biceps femoris muscle injury that kept him out of four Serie A games.
If he scores just once, Osimhen will be just three goals away from equalling a single season goal tally by a Nigerian set by Simy Nwankwoin the 2020/21 season when he netted 20 times in 38 games.
The Super Eagle will also be just five goals away from equalling the most goals scored by an African in the history of the Serie A.
Liberia’s George Weah holds that record with 46 goals with Osimhen second with 40 goals.
