Osimhen’s promise unfulfilled as Galatasaray exits Europa League

Victor Osimhen’s promise to win the UEFA Europa League with Galatasaray this season was unfulfilled after the Turkish champions were eliminated by Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.

In yesterday’s match in Istanbul, Galatasaray managed a 2-2 draw with AZ, but it wasn’t enough to overcome their 4-1 deficit from the first leg, resulting in a 6-3 aggregate loss.

Osimhen, who was suspended for the first leg in the Netherlands, had vowed to help his team overturn the deficit and reach the Round of 16.

Despite netting five goals in the competition, the Super Eagles striker failed to score in the second leg and was substituted late in the game.

With their Europa League campaign ended, Galatasaray will now turn their focus to the upcoming “Intercontinental Derby” against fierce rivals Fenerbahce on Monday. They currently hold a six-point lead over Fenerbahce at the top of the Super Lig after 23 matches.
