President Bola Tinubu announced that his student loan initiative has distributed over N104 billion to 600 students nationwide.
He made this statement on Saturday, February 1, 2025, during the 33rd Convocation of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State.
Tinubu, who was represented by Hajiya Rakiya Gambo Ilyasu, a Director in the Federal Ministry of Education, also revealed that the 2025 budget includes more than N940 billion for the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
This according to the President is part of his commitment to revamp the education sector and ensure that financial challenges do not deny Nigerians access to quality education.
He said, “We remain resolute in addressing challenges in the education sector, including ensuring industrial harmony in universities.”
While charging universities to embrace the student loan scheme, the president said “You have been equipped with knowledge and skills to innovate and contribute to society. Let integrity, resilience, and purpose guide your endeavours. Aspire to greatness, avoid vices, and make Nigeria proud.”
Tinubu said his working tirelessly to strengthen the economy security, and also creating an environment where young Nigerians can thrive and realise their potential.
“Let us remain united in our shared vision of a prosperous, united, and resilient Nigeria,” he said.
The President further urged universities to deepen collaborations with industries to align research with societal needs, to ensure that the education system contributes meaningfully to national development.
