Paris 2024: Australia win women’s 4x100m swimming freestyle relay gold

Australia delivered a scintillating performance on Saturday, swimming the second fastest time in history to secure the women’s 4x100m freestyle gold medal at the Olympics.

The team of Mollie O’Callaghan, Shayna Jack, Emma McKeon, and Meg Harris dominated the race, finishing in 3 minutes 28.92 seconds, ahead of the United States (3:30.20) and China (3:30.30).

Meg Harris anchored the team with a blazing 51.94-second leg, capitalizing on the strong start by O’Callaghan to establish an early lead.

This victory marks Australia’s fourth consecutive Olympic gold in the event, with their time narrowly trailing their own world record of 3:27.96 set last year.

Australia has maintained a stronghold on the 4x100m freestyle relay world record since 2014, continually improving their mark over the years.
