Former Super Eagles forward, Victor Ikpeba has backed the Super Falcons to make it beyond the group stage at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Randy Waldrum’s side is drawn in a tough-looking group with world champions like Spain, Japan and Brazil.

The Super Falcons failed to get past the group stage in their previous appearance at the Olympics.

Ikpeba has, however, predicted a better outing for the nine-time African champions this time around.

“Super Falcons will get out of this ‘Group of Death’,’ ‘ predicted Ikpeba, a member of Nigeria’s U-23 team that won the gold medal in the men’s football event at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

“Nobody also gave us a chance when we were drawn into a tough-looking group at the 1996 Olympics that had Brazil, Japan and Hungary.

“But we went on to make history by winning the first Olympics Gold for Africa.”

The former African Football of the Year, however, said it is important for the Super Falcons to prepare adequately for the competition.

“The Falcons need early preparation, possibly in France for two, three weeks, we did the same in 1996, when we trained for some weeks in the USA,” Ikpeba added.

“The earlier they prepare, the better for the team.”
