Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum remains hopeful that his team can secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Olympic Games, despite a 1-0 loss to world champions Spain on Sunday.
This defeat, following their earlier 1-0 loss to Brazil last Thursday, places the West African side in a challenging position within Group C. The Super Falcons must now secure a victory over Japan in their final group match on Wednesday to have any chance of advancing to the last eight.

Waldrum expressed confidence in his team’s ability to overcome Japan, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming match. “Despite the results so far, we still have a chance to advance if we beat Japan,” Waldrum said. “Our fate also depends on the outcome of Canada’s games, as they currently hold six points.”
The American coach’s optimism is rooted in the belief that a win against the Asian champions could potentially propel the Super Falcons into the knockout stages, depending on other group results.
