Peseiro gets $210k out of $700k owed by NFF

Date:

Jose Peseiro has been paid the sum of $210,000 out of the $700,000 owed him by the Nigeria Football Federation, reports SportsRation.

The reports that the Portuguese tactician was owed ten months’ salary was the subject of discussion last week as Nigeria prepared for AFCON qualification doubleheader games against Guinea-Bissau.

Peseiro was asked about the news by journalists but he was coy on his response as he refused to deny or debunk news, instead he deflected the question.

“The situation about my salary is between me and the NFF. I can’t share nothing on it,” said Peseiro during the Guinea-Bissau pre-match conference.

“I can share the information with my wife because she is my wife and there is no problem about that.

“It’s not all about the money. All we need now is to focus on Guinea match on Friday because we are one step away from qualifying.” He concluded.

His loyalty has now been rewarded as he has now been paid $210,000 out of the $700,000 which is three out of the ten months’ salary he is owed by the Nigeria Football Federation.

According to CompleteSports, the NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, confirmed the payment while denying reports that NFF insisted on the salary being paid first into their account before the coach can be paid.

“There is no truth in that publication because the sports ministry did not at any time ask the NFF to furnish it with Peseiro’s account details.

“Why will we do such? The coach is aware of the true situation and it is contrary to that report, ” Gusau explained.

“When I assumed office as President of the NFF, I demanded to see Peseiro’s contract and the approval by the Federal Government agreeing to pay the coach’s salary.

“But to my utter dismay, there was no approval. I was made to understand that the approval was verbal.

“This also surprised the Sports Minister who asked us to write to get the approval, this we did since last year.

“We are still waiting for the approval and subsequent payment of the salary of the Super Eagles coach

“Whoever published that story – that the NFF refused to furnish the Ministry with Peseiro’s account details is a liar who does not mean well for football in Nigeria.”

Recall, Jose Peseiro was appointed in May 2022 by former NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, while Ibrahim Gusau became new president in September 2022.
