Pillars’ Yaro Pleads For Forgiveness From Nigerians

Kano Pillars’ attacker, Bature Yaro has sent out an emotional apology to the club’s fans and all Nigerians, following their inability to go beyond the first qualifying round of this year’s CAF Champions League.

After failing to consolidate on a hard-earned 3-2 victory at home against Asante Kotoko of Ghana, as they lost 2-0 away on Sunday, Yaro admits Sai Masu Gida are a huge disappointment to their teeming supporters, but pleaded with football lovers in Nigeria to find a place in their heart to forgive all the City of Groundnut Pyramids club’s players.

Kotoko scored their first goal in the third minute after Kano Pillars goalie Suraju Ayeleso parried away Richard Arthur’s shot, but Mathew Kelvin Andoh scored the rebound, and Pillars were unable to get an equaliser, as the hosts held their lead for the first 45 minutes.

Emmanuel Gyamfi then scored Kototo’s second goal in the 77th minute, with a shot that sailed past Pillars’ goalkeeper, Suraju Ayeleso, taking them on to meet Étoile Sportive du Sahel of Tunisia during the next round in September, while Yaro was left apologetic on behalf of his side.

Speaking on a radio sports programme in the wake of his side’s early ouster from the continental terrain, Yaro admitted it is a huge setback for the team, but expressed a strong desire for their fans to sheathe their swords, in order to let the players recover from the setback.

He reckoned that Pillars still have many more matches ahead of them, which he noted would be the opportunity for them to play themselves back into the hearts of their faithful across the country and abroad.

Yaro added: “We are very sorry that we disappointed our fans and all Nigerians. I just hope they find a place in their hearts to please forgive us. We promise to do our best in future.

“We will ensure that we recover from this setback. We will surely make it up to all Nigerians, especially our fans at home and abroad.”
