Nigeria Premier Football League side, Plateau United have appointed former Super Eagles striker, Benedict Akwuegbu as their consultant.
Akwuegbu who owns a Nationwide League One (NLO) side in the state, Ben Akwuegbu FC, is highly experienced, connected, and well known internationally as a former professional football player who has traveled far and wide, which the club hopes he would bring to bear to positively improve the club.
In an appointment letter dated July 28, 2024, signed by Plateau United’s General Manager, it read: “I am pleased to offer you the position of Club Consultant to Plateau United FC effective from September 1, 2024. I believe your expertise and experience will be invaluable to our club.
The letter went ahead to spell out his responsibilities and scope of operation and even conditions while asking him to sign and return a copy of the letter to indicate his acceptance of the offer.
“Congratulations on your appointment and we look forward to working with you”, the letter ended.
Akwuegbu, who also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Plateau State governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang sometime this year, expressed his profound appreciation for the appointment.
“I want to thank the sports-loving governor of Plateau state, Caleb Mutfwang for this great appointment.
“His exemplary leadership has impacted and transformed the state generally which sports is also included.
“I also wish to thank Plateau United FC, their General Manager, Habila Hosea Mutla, their management and the entire good people of Plateau state.
“Plateau State is in my heart always and which ever way I can contribute to the development of the state, I will definitely make myself available.
“I promise to do my best within my powers to help move the club forward”, Akwuegbu concluded.
