Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has thrown his weight behind Super Eagles player, Emmanuel Dennis, who missed a penalty against Portugal.
The Nottingham Forest attacker missed a penalty for Nigeria against Portugal in an international match played in Alvalade on Thursday.
Dennis who came on few minutes before the penalty was awarded by the center referee went and picked the ball laying claim to taking the spot kick. Four players including the stand-in captain, William Trooist-Ekong, urged him to leave it for them but he insisted and lost the kick that would have changed the scoreline.
In a short video interview, the Portuguese gaffer insisted that he has no problem with the player and hopes he plays it better next time.
“No problem, he has my protection, he played the penalty and missed.
But coach Jose Peseiro said anyone can miss a penalty and that it is his job to defend his players.
Which player in the world has not missed a penalty? He questioned rhetorically.
Super Eagles were defeated 0-4 by the Selecao in an international friendly match as Portugal last match ahead of the 2022 FIFA World cup in Qatar.
Nigeria on the other hand failed to qualify for the mundial which kicks off on Sunday.
