The Presidency on Tuesday dismissed reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu tripped during a reception in Ankara, Türkiye, describing the incident as a brief stumble that did not affect his official duties.
President Tinubu, who is on a state visit to Türkiye, was said to have momentarily lost his balance at a reception held in his honour in Ankara, triggering commentary across social and traditional media.
Speaking on the matter, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the President merely stepped on an object on the floor, causing a temporary loss of balance.

“The President stepped on a metal object on the floor, which caused him to momentarily lose his balance. It is not a big deal, except for those determined to make mischief out of a fleeting incident,” Onanuga said.
He emphasised that the incident was neither serious nor consequential, noting that the President was not injured and proceeded with his scheduled engagements.
“It was a simple stumble, thank God, not a fall,” Onanuga added.
Officials on the delegation said President Tinubu remained fully active throughout his programme in Ankara, attending meetings and events lined up for the visit, which is focused on deepening diplomatic, economic and strategic relations between Nigeria and Türkiye.
