Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly closing in on the signing of Sporting Lisbon star Manuel Ugarte, with the French champions set to beat Chelsea to his signature.
Lisbon-based newspaper Correio da Manha report that the French champions have agreed to pay the £52million clause to sign Ugarte.
The Uruguayan international is now expected to sign a five-year contract to join PSG.
PSG look poised to beat Chelsea in the race for the midfielder, with the Blues having held an interest in brining him to Stamford Bridge.
Ugarte has impressed during his second season at Sporting, with the midfielder making 47 appearances in all competitions.
Ugarte joined Sporting for just over £5million in the summer of 2021 from fellow Portuguese side Famalicao.
He has since made 85 appearances for the club, while he also has eight caps for Uruguay.
PSG’s offer was reportedly presented to Ugarte’s agent Jorge Mendes.
Mendes had been talking to several Premier League clubs over a potential move for Ugarte, including Chelsea.
Liverpool and Newcastle United have watched Ugarte this season but are working on other priorities as it stands.
Aston Villa became the latest club to express an interest in the midfielder, but PSG are now expected to win the race for his signature.
