Qatar 2022: Morgan lists four greatest footballers in history after Messi’s display against Croatia

Date:

Popular British journalist, Piers Morgan, has named the top four greatest footballers in the history of the game.

This was after Lionel Messi led Argentina to the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Messi was in sublime form for Argentina, scoring (from the penalty spot) and providing a magical assist as Man City’s Julian Alvarez netted twice in a 3-0 victory over Croatia.

But Morgan still believes that Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest footballer of all time.

Many have suggested Messi’s heroics on the world’s biggest stage should cement his place as the greatest footballer in history.

Former England international Gary Lineker tweeted soon after Argentina’s win against Croatia: “Is there still a debate? Asking for a goat.”

Morgan soon provided a response: “There isn’t. It’s Ronaldo.

“I think Cristiano Ronaldo’s the best ever, [Diego] Maradona 2nd, Messi 3rd (possibly 4th actually, behind R9).”

Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the football stars also regarded as the greatest player ever lived, crashed out of the tournament in the round of sixteen.

Ronaldo was pictured crying profusely after Portugal was dumped out of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament by the lowly rated African side, Morocco.

By doing so, Morocco became the first ever African nation to qualify for the semi-finals of the FIFA senior men’s World Cup and will face the defending champions, France in the second semi-final on Wednesday. The winner of the game will battle Argentina for the most coveted trophy.
