Qatar 2022: Supercomputer predicts England vs France quarter final clash

Date:

A supercomputer has made a fresh prediction for the hotly anticipated quarter-final showdown between England and 2018 World Cup champions France in Qatar.

Gareth Southgate’s men topped Group B, ahead of the USA, and punched their ticket to the knockout stages for a last-16 clash with Senegal.

Goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka sealed an emphatic 3-0 win for England over Senegal at the Al-Bayt Stadium.

France, on the other hand, came out on top in Group D and swept aside Poland in a 3-1 win in their round-of-16 tie at the Al-Thumama Stadium.

The defending World Cup champions came into the tournament on the back of injuries to key players, including Karim Benzema, Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante.

However, Didier Deschamps’ men remain one of the World Cup favourites and have benefited from the impressive form of Kylian Mbappe, who is leading the race for the Golden Boot.

Now, a supercomputer is predicting the end of the road for England and heartbreak for Three Lions fans in the World Cup quarter-finals.

The supercomputer’s other predictions would see Argentina beat the Netherlands and Brazil would defeat Croatia, setting up an all-South American semi-final showdown.

France’s victory over England would see them face Portugal in the semi-finals, with Deschamps’ men sending Cristiano Ronaldo and Co crashing out of the World Cup.

Brazil would end Lionel Messi’s final chance of winning a World Cup with a win in the semi-finals before going on to beat France in the final, according to the supercomputer.

“The French will then march past Portugal in the semi-finals, but will be no match for Brazil in the final — who will have beaten Argentina to get to the showpiece fixture.”

“They’re the world champions. They have incredible depth of talent. Outstanding individual players.

“They’re very difficult to play against and score goals against. It’s a fantastic challenge and a brilliant game for us to prepare for.

“It’s a brilliant game for us to be involved in and test ourselves against the very best.”
