Quadri, Abiodun Win 5th Portuguese League Title

Nigerian table tennis duo, Aruina Quadri and Bode Abiodun played key roles in helping their club, Sporting of Portugal claim a fifth straight domestic Cup title.

While Quadri played in the singles and won the club’s first match of the final against GDCS Juncal, Abiodun paired with a teammate in the doubles, which they also won.

The team ended up with three victories, all of which culminated a fifth consecutive Portuguese Cup, as they kept the title they won last year.

Quadri, who is also Africa’s number one ping pong player, and Abiodun were joined by Portuguese internationals, Joao Monteiro and Diogo Carvalho, in retaining their status as Portugal’s best table tennis side.

Quadri led the way by by defeating Andrei Bukin 3-0 (11-5, 11-2, 11-6), after which Monteiro defeated Mihai Sargu 3-2 in a five-set thriller (11-4, 8-11, 11-2, 11-13, 11-7).

Abiodun then partnered Carvalho to overcome David Bessa and Andrei Bukin 3-0 (11-2, 11-4, 11-9) to seal a victory of three straight games.
