Rangers, Ifeanyiubah Result Stirs Betting Controversy

Wild controversy has erupted over the 4-2 victory achieved by Rangers International of Enugu against FC Ifeanyiubah of Nnewi on the last day of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super-6 play-off, as bet mongers revealed that the same exact result had been touted on social media long before the game at Agege Stadium, Lagos.

Startling revelations trailing The Flying Antelopes’ win, which saw them finish 3rd in the play-off and qualifies them the CAF Confederations Cup, indicates that several betting outlets had already forecast 4-2 as early as 9am on Wednesday, while the match kick-off at 4pm same day.

Although nothing concrete has yet emerged to finger match fixing in the encounter, now has anyone come under investigation over the result, the line of disccisions right after Wednesday’s game indicated that the result was fishy, especially as betting closed just before kick-off.

Incidentally, the betting pattern for Wednesday’s match is said to have cut across many countries in Asia, especialoly the Far East, where match forecats for pay is known to be very popular and quite lucrative.

Insinuations have now erupted over the exact prediction for the Rangers versus Ifeanyiubah match, espeically as both teams appeared at a point set to take their feet off the throttle after the Flying Antelopes scored.

However, rather than what initially appeared set to be a dull game, with Rangers likely to win by the odd goal, the match suddenly came alive in the second half, with The Anambra Warriors surpringly fighting back, until the game ended with the exact scoreline that had been forecast.

“I smell a rat in this game,” said a renowned soccer analyst and sports broadcaster, who preferred to remain anonymous.

“I am not accusing anyone of anything, but getting the same result that had been predcited seven hours earlier is too fishy to me.”
