Rohr snubbed as new Eagles head coach

The Mali Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) has decided to hire former international Eric Sekou Chelle ahead of Gernot Rohr and Winifred Schafer to lead their national team.

Rohr was considered as the favourite to replaces Mohamed Magassouba as head coach of the Eagles.

However, FEMAFOOT has opted for Chelle ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

A statement on their official website, said: “The former defender of the #Aigles, Éric Sékou CHELLE was appointed this Friday, May 6 by the Malian Football Federation at the head of the national team of #Mali.”

Chelle is expected to put pen to paper on a three-year contract.

The Eagles are in Group G of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers alongside Congo, Gambia and South Sudan.
