Rohr Sues For Patience From Nigerian Fans

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has sued for patience from Nigerian soccer fans, as he says he is determined to see the team do better and eventually win a trophy in the coming months.

Although the Franco-German tactician admitted that Nigerians are eager to see the Eagles win a championship under him, Rohr said he is happy with the level of confidence he has been able to build in the large array of young players in the squad.

He went on to declare that the players, coaches and officials are united and committed towards achieving a joint-focus of success for Nigeria, but interjected that it cannot be possible if the fans keep putting lots of pressure on them or even go as a far as mocking everything they do.

The former Niger Republic, Burkina Faso and Gabon handler, however, said he is not thinking of leaving Nigeria in a hurry, but admitted he took to the decision to stay put after winning bronze at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, when he discussed the matter with his family.

Though he did not mention any names in particular, Rohr said he was told by his family to see out his current contract with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), before considering any other offer, among which a section of the media says was a link with DR Congo’s vacant job.

The former Bayern Munich defender, who also once coached Girondins-Bordeaux of France, further disclosed that some of the Eagles’ players also called him up to urge him not to quit as they are happy with the job he is doing for the team and they enjoy playing under him.

Rohr disclosed: “I love Nigeria and they are very good people. I also discovered that football is like a religion in Nigeria.

“You must be at your best if any coach wants to succeed because they hardly welcome failure. You must win your matches.

“I know I have not won any major trophy but I have done the most important thing by building confidence in the team.”
