Cristiano Ronaldo is facing a £1m fine as Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag gets tough on his sulking star.
And Ronaldo could even be axed from the squad ahead of this weekend’s crunch showdown with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Ronaldo is in hot water with the Dutchman for flouncing off before the end of United’s 2-0 win over Tottenham on Wednesday night.
The Portuguese ace walked down the touchline and to the dressing rooms ahead of the final whistle – despite the fact Ten Hag was still able to make two substitutions.
Ronaldo, who had been dropped for the game, will now be hit with a fine of two weeks wages and made to apologise to his team-mates. Ten Hag is a stickler for discipline and is losing patience with the 37-year-old.
He refused to sanction Ronaldo when he left Old Trafford before the end of United’s pre-season friendly with Real Vallecano in July.
Ten Hag warned the striker about his behaviour after describing it as “unacceptable” – and has now decided to punish Ronaldo in a bid to send a strong message to the dressing room that acts of ill-discipline will not be tolerated.
