Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has sensationally declared that there is a strong possibility of in-form Rotherham United of England defensive midfielder, Semi Ajayi starting against Seychelles in Friday’s last match of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ajayi is rising high with his club, for which he netted his sixth goal in five matches last weekend and promptly gained top spot on the latest English Championship player rankings.
However, the dilemma for Rohr will in which position to line Ajayi out, as the lad has moved from being a reliable central defender to an effective defensive midfielder with his club, who are struggling for survival in England’s second-tier division.
Dramatically, Ajayi played at right-back in his debut for the Eagles, which was in the first leg away to Seychelles, but the full back positions and holding midfield appear already taken over by better grounded players and more experienced players of longer years in the Eagles.
Nonetheless, it will be up to Rohr to see how he keeps his promise, after declaring emphatically that he is impressed with what he has seen of the former Flying Eagles invitee in recent time and believes the lad can replicate such for in the green-and-white.
Rohr stated: “Since he came with us in that match against Seychelles, he progressed so much, just as I see now even in his club.
“I am very happy to see him again and there is a good chance he could start in the match against Seychelles.”
