Romelu Lukaku has done little to impress at Inter since making his return last summer and the club are reportedly leaning towards sending him back to Chelsea in the summer.
The 29-year-old Belgian striker did not come cheap in the summer, costing the Nerazzurri around €20m between his loan fee and salary for the season. Since his return, Lukaku has been hampered by injuries, starting just five Serie A games and only scoring once domestically, back in August against Lecce.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Inter are still waiting for Lukaku to hit his turning point of the season, wanting to see his comeback both in terms of the numbers and his performances on the pitch.
Currently, the club are inclined to let him return to Chelsea in the summer, not wanting to invest so heavily for such little return. Should he rediscover his form in the coming months, however, the Nerazzurri would look to hash out a new deal with the Blues.
Reports regarding Lukaku’s future with Inter are divided, however, as La Gazzetta dello Sport recently suggested that the Nerazzurri are willing to retain the Belgium for next season even if he fails to show his best before the summer.
