Serie A: It’s great honour to join AC Milan, says Origi

Date:

New Milan signing, Divock Origi, has said it was an “honour” to join the club at his unveiling press conference.

The Belgium forward joined on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool and told reporters: “We spoke on various occasions towards the end of the season but I was focused on Liverpool.

“I soon understand how big the Milan project was. There is a special project here which I am totally on board with and of Milan’s legacy, it’s special history is ideal for my mentality.

“For me it’s an honour to be part of it. This club has a legacy which is passed on from generation to generation. To bring my qualities to this group is an honour.”

Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have been seen as key players in some of the club’s most important signings in recent seasons, which is why there was such a desire among supporters for the duo to have their contracts renewed.

And asked whether their input was important, Origi said: “Speaking to them was decisive. Maldini was one of the best players in the world, an example for me.

“Massaro is becoming a great director. These directors brought important values.

“I am grateful to be a part of this group. I know how important the foundations they have built are. I am honoured to be managed by directors like them.”

At Liverpool, Origi developed a reputation for scoring important goals against city-rivals Everton and, asked whether he had a special knack when it came to local derbies, he added: “I don’t think there is a secret but I think it’s important to always be ready.
