Serie A: Mourinho tries to fight referee, sent off as Roma lose to Atalanta

Roma manager, Jose Mourinho, had to be held back by his coaching staff before being sent off as they lost 1-0 to Atalanta on Sunday.

The 59-year-old stormed onto the pitch to confront the referee over a penalty call that didn’t go his team’s way.

Nicolo Zaniolo was brought down inside the box by Caleb Okoli in the 54th minute, but it was not given as a spot kick, and was instead issued as a foul the other way.

Mourinho was eventually issued with a red card by referee Daniele Chiffi.

The crowd responded to the incident by singing the name of their manager and cheering.

Roma were 1-0 down at this point after Giorgio Scalvini’s 35th minute goal, and it stayed this way despite the drama of the second half.
