The marriage between Zaynab Ngohemba and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, was confirmed on Friday following a Facebook post that brought the union into public view.

Although the couple got married over a year ago, the relationship had remained largely private, known only to close family members and a few associates.

Ngohemba is the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), whom she married as Olori Wuraola before the union ended in 2017.

The confirmation emerged through a celebratory Facebook post by a member of the Dajoh family, Abraham Double-d Dajoh, who shared photographs from the wedding ceremony.

In the post, the Dajoh family described the union as “beautiful” and “uncommon,” formally welcoming Ngohemba into the family’s fold in Benue State.

The statement, which quickly gained traction on social media, conveyed the family’s joy and marked what it described as a significant new chapter in the SGF’s household.

“We, the entire Dajoh Family, happily join our daddy, uncle and brother, His Excellency, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume Jugu Dajoh, in welcoming his new and uncommon wife, Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, into the Dajoh family,” the post read.

The family also thanked Akume’s political allies and supporters, urging them to sustain their support as he embarks on a new phase of his personal life.

“We appreciate and thank the fans and supporters of Sen. Akume for always standing by him. We enjoin everyone to continue to support His Excellency even in this beautiful union with Queen Zaynab,” the statement added.

Queen Zaynab was ushered into her new home with cultural reverence, with the family emphasising their ancestral roots in Mbakor and the wider Benue State.

“Welcome to Benue State, the Food Basket of the Nation; welcome to Mbakor, the seat of leadership of the Tiv nation, and welcome to the Dajoh family, the home of your darling husband. Welcome home, Queen Zaynab,” the statement concluded.

The announcement coincided with the festive season, as the family extended goodwill messages to Nigerians.

“We wish you all a happy Christmas celebration and a prosperous New Year,” the post said.

Akume, a former governor of Benue State, currently serves as Secretary to the Government of the Federation in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

His spokesman, Yomi Odunuga, confirmed the marriage, clarifying that reports suggesting the wedding took place on December 24 were inaccurate.

“I can confirm the marriage. However, contrary to the rumour that it was formalised in Gboko on Christmas Eve, the marriage is actually over a year old,” Odunuga said.
