Siasia: My Mother Needs Medical Attention

Former Super Eagles’ striker and head coach, Samson Yebowei Siasia has disclosed that his mother needs instant medical attention, considering that her healthy situation is shaky, after being in captivity by kidnapers for almost three months.

Siasia disclosed as much, while revealing that his mum had finally been released on Sunday by the kidnappers, following ten weeks in captivity, pointing out that the 76-year-old Mrs Ogere Siasia is not medically fit, due to the agonizing experience she went through with two others, after they were all seized back in July in Bayelsa State.

It was the second time in four years that Mrs Siasia had been kidnapped after she was previously held by gunmen for 12 days, before her release back in November 2015 and, although she was released without harm early on Sunday, it is not clear if a ransom was paid.

The player-turned coach, who is also facing an appeal of a life ban handed him by world soccer governing body, FIFA, pleaded for help last week for assistance in the release of his mum, and has now stated that he was relieved that she eventually returned home safely.

He admitted that he will now switch attention to clearing his name, for which he is billed to pay 100,000 Swiss Francs on or before October 10 for his appeal to be heard at Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Sia1 told BBC Sport: “It’s been really tough but I’m pretty relieved that she’s finally released on Sunday morning. I can only thank Nigerians and everyone involved in the safe return of my mother.

“She’s old and in poor health right now. I pray no one has to go through this emotional trauma. My mother is unwell so she needs medical attention, which is my priority now. Then I have to do all I can to be heard at CAS because being in football is the only life that I know.”
