Sikiru Alimi Relishes Bright Start To NPFL Super-6

Lobi Stars of Makurdi striker, Sikiru Alimi has stated delight with his goal and assist that helped his side snatch a 3-1 win against FC Ifeanyiubah of Nnewi on the first day of fixtures in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super-6 at Agege Stadium, Lagos.

While Enyimba of Aba also beat Rangers of Enugu 1-0 and Kano Pillars battled to a thrilling 2-2 draw with Akwa United of Uyo, Alimi added he was equally excited to see his side go top of the log after Day 1.

The Middle Belt side, who were crowned NPFL champions by default last season, after the campaign was cut short due to lack of time, showed a lot of zeal to retain their title, after Alimi struck one and Samad Kadiri got a brace to silence The Anambra Warriors.

In the day’s last match, which was played under floodlights at The Soccer Temple, Ebuka David put Kano Pillars in front after just three minutes, but Ndifreke Effiong drew The Promise Keepers level in the 31st minute.

Nyima Nwagua restored Pillars’ lead two minutes later, but Godspower Aniefiok then ensured another equaliser for Akwa and that both teams went into the break with his 37th minute strike against his former club.

Pillars were reduced to 10 men after defender Ifeanyi Nweke was sent off on the dot of 90 minutes, as both clubs settled for third and fourth spot on the table after the opening day of action in the NPFL Super-6, with Ifeanyiubah last, Rangers fifth, Enyimba second and Lobi Stars top.

Action resumes on Thursday, when Rangers tango Lobi Stars, Pillars face Enyimba and Akwa United tackle FC Ifeanyiubah, ahead of which Alimi is of a view that his side are already looking like champions again.

Making his excitement known Wednesday morning, during Mega Sports’ programme on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos, Alimi admitted he was equally excited with his personal performance in Tuesday’s game.

Alimi added: “I am happy that my team won our first match in the Super-6. I am also happy that I scored one and got one assist as well.

“It’s a good sign for us, starting the competition with victory. It’s a good one for us, because we can be champions of the league once again.

“Lucky for us, we got the biggest win among all the teams. We will now concentrate on all the other matches, and I hope we continue winning.”
