‘Simy’ Banks On Renewed Form For Eagles’ Recall

Crotone of Italy striker, Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo (Simy) has come out with a confession that he wants to keep raining goals with his Serie B side in order to gain a recall to the Super Eagles.

‘Simy’ admitted he is keen on playing for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, but admits the competition for shirts is huge, and only good club performances can give him a chance.

With that in mind, ‘Smy’ says he is not thinking of summer transfer speculation that has already linked him with SS Lazio of Italy, as he says he would rather concentrate on hitting more goals with Crotone.

After hitting target in the last three matches for the former Serie A side, who were relegated last term, despite his haul of goals, the lanky striker has been linked with one of the club’s his representative, Stephen Ayodele Makinwa played for in his heyday.

The Rome-based team also had at various time the trio of Seyi Adeleke, Emmanuel Sani and Eddy Ogenyi Onazi on their cards, but ‘Simy’ says his thoughts for now are solely on excelling with Crotone.

‘Simy’ aims to keep scoring, in order to help Crotone escape relegation to Serie C and aid him in his quest for a return to the Eagles, in order to get a spot in Nigeria’s final squad to Egypt 2019.

The former Gil Vicente of Portugal attacker featured in two matches off Nigeria’s bench during the 2018 World Cup in Russia and was on target in an exhibition match against Liberia in September 2018.

By netting a brace against Carpi last weekend, ‘Simy’ took his tally to seven goals in 2019, exceeding his achievements in the second half of last season, which earned him a call to the Eagles.

Dramatically, his contract with Crotone is set to run out at the end of the this season, which has left him open to a myriad of transfer speculations, but the leggy striker insists on staying focused instead.

‘Simy’ stated: ”I cannot comment on rumours linking me with Lazio. I am focused on finishing the season strongly then we will see what happens.

”It is always a dream playing for the Super Eagles but, for that to happen I have to focus on doing well for my club. So, that’s what I am focused on doing now. “
