Smart city fc of Lagos, on Saturday qualified for the quarter finals of the Lagos fa cup, after dismantling, mouthy, but inexperienced Real Sapphire 2-1 in the round of 16, at the new look Mobolaji Johnson Stadium.
City main team had earlier in the week, lost to real Sapphire, that loss gave the feeders more impetuous not to let the entire smart city down.
The city young lads came into the game with brutal mentality, following the noise real Sapphire were making after their win against city’s main team.
The match which was keenly and grudgingly contested, saw Sapphire, taking the lead with just two mins into the game, but, city players refused to lie down and get rolled over, as they replied with an equaliser few minutes later.
Both teams went at each other with genuine intentios to score more goals, but to no avail, as the first half ended 1-1.
City, who needed an outright victory did not disappoint, they came out more purposeful and they gave Real Sapphire some bitter pills to swallow, with a well worked goal by, Morufu Olawoye in the second half which they defended very well till the end of the game to dumped out their youthful noise makers out of the fa cup.
Coach of smart city, ex Nigerian international, Festus Odini, said, after the game that, he is very elated with his player’s display, while also anticipating a very beautiful quater final game on Tuesday” he said.
“My boys has displayed some real palatable football in this tournament and I am totally pleased with the way they took Sapphire to the cleaners and their performances since the start of the tournament has been very delicious” he added.
“Our attentions now is the game on Tuesday, we will give our opponents a good game and by the grace of God, we will achieve victory” he concluded.
