The South East Football Legends on Saturday bestowed its honour and recognition on the All Nigerian Football Players Union (ANFPU) in a ceremony which took place in Owerri, the state capital.
In a statement made available to ANFPU Media Team, the event had in attendance top members of the South East Football Legends as well as ANFPU Board of Trustees Chairman/National Coordinator, Chikelue Iloenyosi and the General Secretary, Olisa Onuchukwu.
Speaking at the event, Chikelue appreciated the gesture which he described as the best thing to happen to football players union in a long time.
“I’m very much impressed with what you have done to recognize the new players union and our efforts to bring a new lease of life to Nigerian players and ex-players”.
“This will no doubt give us more encouragement to carry out our responsibilities as a credible union to achieve success”.
“We promise not to fail in this task which will be of immense benefits to everyone”, Iloenyosi stated.
Earlier in his speech while welcoming the ANFPU leadership as well as presenting a letter of credence to the union South East Football Legends spokesman, Joseph Irechukwu, praised the union for putting in place a timely rescue mission to revive and attend to players welfare which was before now in a dwindling state.
“You have come as our saviour when the dream of having someone who will rescue us was fading away”. “Let me say it loud and clear that you have revived our hopes and aspirations by takeing up this tall order and responsibility to lead us out of the doldrums”. “We appreciate you more than ever before and will continue to support you wholeheartedly”.
Irechukwu, advised the Iloenyosi-led board not to be distracted by moves which may come from detractors, expressing confidence that such would be dead on arrival.
“Today, I want to advise you to be steadfast and strong while carrying out your duty”. “I know that people would want to distract you by any means, but, I assure you that they would fail because our prayers for you will never cease to take its place. We wish you all the best”, Irechukwu ended
In a similar development, ANFPU President, Abdul Sule, also met with FCT female players in an interactive session in Abuja on Saturday.
This will be the second time in few days that the top hierarchy of the union will be meeting to synergize with key players in Nigeria’s football unionism after an earlier discussion with Abuja Players Union who declared their total support while pitching their tents with ANFPU.
