Winner of boys’ under-16 category at this year’s Nigerian Junior Tennis Championship, Suleiman Ibrahim has declared that his next target, after emerging tops at Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, is to be a world best player.
The student of Durumi Junior Secondary School, Abuja stormed back for victory after losing the first set 3-10 against David Dawariye from Faith Baptist High School, Diobu, Rivers State, finishing 10-4 and 12-10 in a tie break, then declared that he has a dream to rule the global tennis ranks.
In the Boys U-14 category, Ganiyu Mubarak pipped Isaac Danjuma 10-8, 9-11, 10-6 tie break while in Esther Oni thumped Scholar Otu 11-9, 4-10, 11-9 tie break in the U-14 girls category, and the girls U-16 saw Omolayo Bamidele defeat Favour Moses 12-10, 10-2 to become the winner.
in the Boys U-12 category, Mohammed Idris stopped Seun Ogunsakin 7-10, 10-7, 12-10 tie break, while Adewusi Faith hit Favour Amaechi 10-6, 10-7 in a straight set, but the cynosure of all eyes was Ibrahim.
The new under-16 champion disclosed that he had to breathe through his nose to defeat his opponent, who he described as a ‘good player’ and thanked NNPC/SNEPCo for their continued sponsorship of the event.
