Super Eagles Ace Defender Kenneth Omeruo Reveals Leganes future

TribalFootball sits down with Chelsea and Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo in an exclusive interview about life in LaLiga with Leganes, working with Mauricio Pellegrino and his plans for the future.

The Nigeria international joined Chelsea as a teenager in 2010, and enjoyed fruitful loan spells with ADO Den Haag and Middlesbrough before leaving for Turkey in 2015. After three stints in Super Lig – twice at Kasimpaşa and Alanyaspor – Omeruo, 25, has spent this season with Leganes, under the tutelage of former Southampton boss Pellegrino.

Omeruo sat down with our very own Francis Achi to discuss his time at Leganes and where his future lies.

1) How have you found your first season in Spain? Does it suit your football?

My first season in Spain has been very good.

It is very different from Turkey, but I have adapted so much to the style of football and I can say right now that it suit my football.

2) Do you feel your game has improved from your first six months with Leganes?

Yes. My game has really improved because after each game, I have some private time with the manager (Mauricio Pellegrino) and he explains a lot of things to me.

Some mistakes, some corrections about positioning and these have really helped my football. I am happy to be working under him.

3) Can you see yourself staying with Leganes beyond your loan? Has there been any discussions with the club about the prospect?

Honestly, I want to stay at Leganes.

It has to be the last time i will be going out on loan. We have not discussed anything yet. They have not shown any interest. So fingers crossed.

We are looking at other options as well. We will see at the end of the season what happens.

4) What is your ambition with Leganes this season?

My ambition with the club is simple. I think the target is not to relegate. I think we have the squad to actually play well and get good results.

We will try to play to qualify for the Europa league. The team is very strong at home and if we can win few games at away, it will help to push the team up in La Liga.
